AVOIDING DISTRACTIONS ONLINE
Many of us over time get
distracted by social media and searching the internet at times, when we should
be completing something important such as an assignment for university. Avoiding
distractions online can be hard but to have successful study you need to have
discipline so you use your time wisely. One key is to know what your biggest
sources of distractions are weather its social networking sites such as Facebook
or weather its news sites and emails. You need to know what distracts you from
being productive. Below you will find useful tips to making your university study less distracting.
Disable notifications
If your phones sitting on your desk and your Facebook notifications or other notifications are turned on every time your phone goes off your going to want to check what it is. This is a distraction from you working. You can disable notifications with most applications on your phone by going into the settings of the application and turning the notifications off. With the notifications being turned off your phone will not be making sound and distracting you.
Use distractions as a reward
Using distractions as a reward can encourage you to keep working on your task until you have completed it but if you don’t have self control it isn’t going to work. If you set a task once it is completed you can reward yourself by visiting you distraction but you need to set a time limit so that you’re not on the site for too long.
Set clear goals
By setting goals you are going to want to achieve your goals. By achieving your goal you’re going to be rewarded with being able to go onto your distracted site and feel like you have achieved something. Your goals to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time based, this way you will have more of a chance to achieve the goal you have set out to achieve.
Limit your time
If you have no self discipline and are unable to limit your time on online distractions you are going to have to put the distractions out of reach. Instead of writing an essay or assignment on the computer do it by hand that way you won’t be able to open the internet and start browsing and getting distracted. If you are able to have willpower you will feel better about yourself, the first couple of times will be hard but it will be much easier.

To really increase your productivity nothing will benefit you more then turning off your phone. By being distracted by notifications, texts and call you’re never going to get anything completed. Mac users can use SelfControl which is an application that will allow you to block the distracting websites as well as your emails.
